The Level 1 syllabus
is an appropriate entry-level course for introducing children 8
years of age and over to Powerboating and is ideal if your children
use a tender or dinghy around the marina. We aim to teach 90% of
this course on the water.
The
RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course, is a 2 day course and is the most
popular power boat qualification where you will learn how to launch
and recover the boat safely and all about the safety equipment required
before you go to sea. You will also be taught how to take charge
and moor up the boat alongside. Having mastered the basic manoeuvres,
you will go out into open water where you will drive the boat at
high speed performing both S and U turns.
Emergency drills will
be taught early on in the course, and by the end of it you will
be competent in being able to recover a ‘man overboard’.
Those gaining their
Level 2 can then apply to the RYA for their ICC ('International
Certificate of Competence'). This course usually takes place at
a weekend, but can be arranged to suit any requirements.
